This assignment was important to me to dive into what my teaching philosophy actually is. It was meaningful to find a quote that relates to me and my teachings. I really connected with my quote and I believe I have a good start of what my teaching philosophy is and how to implement it into my future classrooms.
Every child deserves a champion—an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.
– Rita Pierson
Reflection:
I chose this quote because it emphasizes the importance of an educator and how teachers impact their students. As we teach children by following the BC curriculum, I think that it is most important to teach children kindness and respect. Children do not always come to school to learn but they come to school for a safe place and a sense of belonging. This quote aligns with my teaching philosophy because I believe that the most important role of a teacher is to make all students feel welcome and safe. Students thrive in a motivating, supportive environment, this is something I want to build within my classroom. As a future educator, I want to foster trust, engagement, and belief in all of my students’ potential. I would love to create a love for learning in my class. I think that it is important to ensure that every student can see their potential and growth. To implement my chosen quote and my philosophy in my classroom I would like to display my quote on a poster board in the classroom.
As an activity, I would read out the quote and have a small discussion with my students about what this quote may mean to them. The students can think about someone in their life who is their champion. I would ask the students to make a champion pledge, they would write or illustrate how they are going to be a champion in the classroom. All of the pledges can be displayed on a bulletin board for all the students to see everyday.
My ultimate goal as a future educator is to be the adult in my students’ lives who never gives up on them and insists they can be the best they can be.
